“The 3rd Dimension”
Musical selections include:
Trinity by Snarky Puppy, Pyramid Song by Radiohead, View from Olympus, Mvt 3: “Maenads” by John Psathas & The Moment I Said It by Imogen Heap
The 3rd Dimension actually started as a concept driven by music rather than a concept driven by a visual 3D idea.
“Trinity” by Snarky Puppy has strong ties to the DFW metroplex, named after the Trinity River that connects Dallas and Ft Worth (and also happens to be one of my favorite bands). “Pyramid Song” by Radiohead has always been an intriguing composition to me - especially the opening chord progression and meter. With both of these pieces of music high on the list, I was immediately drawn to the element of THREES: Trinity, Triangles, Pyramids, etc.
Throughout the show you experience elements of “3” through musical devices (isolated 3 note patterns, trios, triple meters, layering of 3 musical ideas) and visually (triangular drill forms, separating the field into 3 sections with pyramid-shaped props that culminates with the props forming a large triangular prism). The props were also designed to show different “dimensions” depending on their placement on the field, proximity to light and the angle they are viewed from.
